My Husband's Affair Became the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me
by Anne Bercht
I will acknowledge up front that I can not be totally objective in reviewing this booksince I have such personal admiration for the author. I have known Anne since early 2003, when she first volunteered to serve as a BAN Support Group Coordinator for her area in Canada. I eventually chose her to be my successor in leading BAN in the future, and in June, 2006, we completed the transfer of that responsibility.
I have followed her progress as she and Brian have become more and more public in sharing their personal story in dealing with his affair, leading to eventually writing this book, describing in detail their own personal experience. This kind of responsible first-person account can be extremely helpful in providing valuable insight and perspective about this whole issue.
It's been 25 years since James and I wrote a book about our own first-person experience, and this is the first one since that time that I have wanted to support and promote. In fact, I read this book in manuscript form and provided the following quote for the back cover:
"This book makes a wonderful contribution to the growing willingness of couples to 'break the code of silence' and share their experience with affairs in order to help others. It offers clear insight into the pain involved as well as great hope for the power to recover and rebuild the marriage."
I hope this book will be widely read, not only by other couples who are struggling to recover from an affair and rebuild their marriage (in the way Anne and Brian have done), but I also hope the general public will read it to gain a clearer understanding of the realities of the impact of this experience on everyone involved.
