Surviving Divorce and Building a New Life
by Abigail Trafford
This book provides a step-by-step guide to the emotions felt through separation and divorce. It helps the reader to realize that he/she is not crazy, but is only following the natural path to get on with their life and surviving. The ideas come from the author's own personal experience as well as extensive research and interviews. (She is health editor of the Washington Post and a former assistant managing editor of U.S. News & World Report.)
Once again, I include this book primarily because of my bias in favor of hearing from people who have "been there" in relation to whatever subject they are writing about. She offers people a better understanding of their own experiences and the message that they are not alone in their pain and confusion. She charts this emotional journey, identifying the common phases in the evolution from marriage to separation to divorce - and eventually to a new life.
